This August that happened. When political activists posing as Philippine farmers destroyed the Golden Rice research trials my brother Patrick and I decided we had to get involved. We knew that the driving force behind the activists was an organization both of us helped create -Greenpeace - and no matter how much good they have done in the world, they are wrong on this issue and it's costing 2 million people, mostly children, their eyesight and life each year.
So last weekend, there we were, in front of the 32 million-dollar Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior, with our families, our banner and our information table. Ironic to say the least, but also an issue where I can make a difference to so many lives, in full awareness of the dynamics involved.
Our website is here - www.allowgoldenricenow.org - and if any of you wish to discuss the issue please drop me a line.
Another most gratifying thing is underway. Following the Farmer's Cathedral compositions I had a period of composing focused on Yoga Nidra, working with Michelle Rubin. That direction seems to have brought out a more ambient style, and I have seven compositions developing at once, and they seem to be much easier to live with for my wife - who has to hear a lot of me, so that is really good news!
I will post some clips from these pieces in my next newsletter.
(PS: the Saltspring Island show is October 27, not November as originally posted)
